One of the daily delights in my new life walking el Camino de Santiago is following trails of wildflowers, proud village blooms and the shell symbol of Saint James. Every step of the way these have been in sight: fields of poppies and daisies, chamomile and dandelion along the path edge, a shell quietly waiting on a signpost, showing you the way. The flowers and shells have become my companions as much as the other pilgrims on the trail.

I love the poppy in the backpack. Do you find yourself thinking about all the people and feet that have walked this path – does it ever feel like you feel their presence?
Every day the historical significance of this trail hits me. Thousands of feet have ached on this same trail. The Romans were once here. It is humbling, a little overwhelming, and very powerful. I feel like I am a little piece in the human puzzle, adding a little more meaning to the big picture.

Nice collection of photos from the Camino! I hope to do the Camino some day. But first, off to climb Kilimanjaro next week!

The Camino is incredible. Not as challenging in terms of terrain, but the month of walking certainly teaches you a few lessons 🙂 Happy hiking.
