Meet Nic

I feel most like myself when I’m travelling. I look for cultural insights, meaningful moments with strangers, incredible food, exceptional coffee and sunshine.

When I’m not travelling, I base myself in Brisbane, Australia, where I work in Marketing and Communication, and make ceramics. Travelling has taught me that I want to live my life with the same enthusiasm, open-mindedness and carefree attitude that I apply to international adventures.

I hope you enjoy my little stories and observations.

I write and photograph for freelance gigs too. Trust that honesty and intregity is important to me, and I’ll only represent views I believe.ย Get in touch via mail@nicfreeman.com

  1. Oh you lucky you! How I wish I can go to half the places you have been to. I have been dying to go to Scandinavia since I was in grade 6. And here you are living my dream. I love your posts. I love your photographs too so I really get a kick reading your blogs. I enjoy traveling, but I promised myself I will explore most of our country’s 7,107 islands before I get my passport stamped. So hopefully I get to see Norway and Sweden soon.

    1. Thanks for reading MBTB – I am living my dream too. It’s amazing to see these countries I’ve read about since childhood. Sounds like you’ve got lots to look forward to too. Here in the cold, I can tell you I’m kinda dreaming of warm island living. Best of luck with your explorations!

  2. I love your blog and about me! I would love to travel to as many places as you. I am working abroad in Ireland this summer and hope to travel afterwards and meet people and make tons of connections. You have inspired me to live with an adventurous travel mindset. Best of luck to you on the rest of your adventures!

    1. Thanks so much Rachel. Really appreciate your comment. Life is good, especially when travelling and I really get the most out of it when reminding myself to be grateful and enthusiastic by enjoying the little delights. I’m sure your Irish adventure will be amazing, and a great opportunity to appreciate the wonders of the world.

  3. We are also trying to develop a blog site that will let us travel (with the occasional compted hotel, etc) and share our impressions with others. I am an educator with wife and an eight year old and whenever we have a break, we road trip, usually with an outdoor bent and a lot of camping. When you get a chance, we would love some honest feedback on our site. Congratulations on making the Freshpress.

    1. Thanks iheartpolrbears – so glad you like it. I do travel and blog / write at the same time. It can be a bit of a juggling act somedays, especially when trying to get a steady internet connection, power supply and comfy place to work, but it’s very doable and fun. I find that it where I am and what I’m up to impacts how quickly the post comes out, but I do draft/ research as I go and then publish the polished post as soon as I can after. You should definitely give it a go – it’s fun to have project while on the road!

  4. I am so happy to have stumbled upon your blog. I share your love for travel and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about your adventures and love your eye for photography! I look forward to following your journeys! Cheers, Ai
p.s. Loved, loved, LOVED OZ and NZ! We spent our honeymoon there and can’t wait to go back!

    1. Oh thanks so much CF. Glad to have you along for the journey! Glad you loved OZ (I’m missing it lately). Have a few posts there about Brisbane, NSW and surrounds if you’re interested. Thanks for reading!

  5. Hi Nic. I just found your blog and it’s great. You write so well and your travels bring back memories of my own. I just put a little snippet about tapas in San Sebastian in my blog and then found yours about cycling there! I look forward to reading all your posts! Congratulations. Happy travels and keep writing!

    1. Hi Patchy028,

Thanks so much. Glad you found and like my site! Oh the tapas in San Sebastian, so yummy. Glad to have you along for the ride.

Will be posting about my travels in Southern Spain soon – Granada, The Alhambra (already published), La Herradurra beaches, Ronda mountain escape and Cordobia.

      Cheers,
      Nic

  6. I say… hello Nic ๐Ÿ˜‰
It sounds very interesting… I’ll takee time to read more and I think I’ll love your blog!
I love travelling too and want to discover so many places of our planet…
    My problems: time and money!
    Cheers,
    Melnanny

    1. Hi Melnanny, Lovely to hear from you. Thanks for following and commenting.

Time and money are indeed those constants that draw me away from the adventure of travel. I often think ‘if only…’, as I sure most people do.

I’ve realised this year that working towards my goals (saving for travel and writing about travel) is an extra joy on top of travelling for 9 months. It feels good to know I worked hard to get here (even though it was a long time coming and a bit of a hard slog)…and that I did reach the light at the end of that non-travel tunnel. ๐Ÿ™‚

Please let me know what you think as you follow.

      Cheers,
      Nic

    1. Hi Zena. Happy new year!
Thanks for sharing the link to Globe Trotting English. Reading her impressions of Cambodia remind me a lot of my travels there.
I’m happy to share my travels with you, and appreciate you reading along.
      Nic

  7. Hi Nic! I just found your blog, it is really really amazing. I was wondering… How did you become a travel writer? And what other publications do you work at? ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Hey Elizabeth,

Thanks for reading. I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed my blog so far.

I’ve been blogging and working in communications / writing / editing for years, and started working as a freelance travel writer last year while on a nine month trip through Europe. It started with a bit of online networking and pitching to companies and publications. You can view some of my recent work on my portfolio page. http://nicfreemanportfolio.wordpress.com/

      Cheers,
      Nic

  9. Great blog! Traveling is something I hope to do a lot of someday. I would love to spend my life learning and immersing myself in other cultures. I think I learn more about myself that way, and seeing the world is such an eye-opening experience.

    1. Thanks Rebecca, lovely to hear from you. I totally agree – the more you learn about others, other places, other cultures, the more information you have to reflect and learn about yourself.

  10. You said: “Travelling has taught me that I want to live my life with the same enthusiasm, open-mindedness and carefree attitude that I apply to international adventures.”

That’s such a beautiful quote, I totally know what you mean there! I try to incorporate the same attitude in my ‘normal’ life as well! ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Thanks MissM! It can be a challenge some days, but if you take the time out to appreciate the wonderful things around you, ‘normal’ life inspire the same adventure and wonder.

  11. Lovely. I always wanted to travel and see the world, and I got started in a big way this year. I’ve been to South Africa (february & July), and Italy (November) and I cant trade those memories for anything. I’d be looking for learn some travel tips from you! Cheers
